Ease of Movement is calculated using the relationship between the change in a security's midpoint price and its volume, adjusted by the trading range. In ChartSchool, StockCharts describes the calculation as consisting of three elements: the distance moved (the change in midpoint from one period to the next), the box ratio (volume divided by the high–low range), and the resulting EMV value, which rises when prices move easily on relatively low volume and falls when price movement requires relatively high volume.{{cite web |
