::Thanks. I wonder if it's even true to say that they were introduced with NWOBHM. Here's [https://www.ukrockfestivals.com/reading-77-crowd-fight-8.jpg a photo of one from 1977, Reading Rock festival]. These were the ones I really remember, where people went to the bother of embroidering bands' names, and 1977 antedates NWOBHM (term introduced in 1979).
