::::My personal opinion is that the settlement infobox top-down order is more natural, as one can immediately recognize the sovereign state and understand what follows. Though I bet you could make equally valid arguments for either. I'd be interested to read that agreement if you can find it. ...so this template instructs people to only use of those parameters. But we don't enforce that. |

I've seen a few cases of people misusing the non-metropitolitan county field – mainly on metropolitan counties where they're trying to shoehorn an area's pre-1974 county into the infobox. I can imagine there might be a few placed in unitary districts that are using shire_county when they should be using lieutenancy_england. |

(Strictly that says it's for conflicts where one parameter is being ignored, I don't know is we can flex that?) |
