In 1993, a partnership between the Downtown Yonge Business and Resident Association and the City of Toronto was formed, known as the Yonge Street Regeneration Project. Its objectives were "to create a renewed sense of place, attract additional retail and entertainment development to the area and to improve its appearance and safety".
