‘Positano’ Matthew McConaughey & Zoe Saldaña Romantic Netflix Film to Begin Filming in May 2026

Picture Credits: Getty Images Hollywood stars Matthew McConaughey and Zoe Saldaña will headline a romance caper, Positano, at Netflix, from Tuner director Daniel Roher. Filming is to get underway in Italy in May 2026. Here’s everything we know about Positano on Netflix. Per Deadline in December 2025, Positano is an upcoming Netflix Original romantic-comedy film currently in development, with Daniel Roher (Tuner, Blink) on board to direct. Roher is highly renowned for his work on Navalny (2002), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. The script was penned by Alessandro Tanaka and Brian Gatewood, the creative duo behind movies The Sitter (2011) and Sharper (2023). Working Title founders Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan are producing. Netflix has yet to announce the film. What is the plot of Positano? Outside of the cast and creative team, plot details are being kept under lock and key. The film will be set in the Italian town of Positano, a picturesque spot on the Amalfi Coast that very much lends itself to the romance caper theme.  Who are the cast members of Positano? Matthew McConaughey and Zoe Sladaña have been confirmed as the two romantic leads of the film. McConaughey has only starred in one Netflix project, voicing the lead in Agent Elvis. Meanwhile, Saldaña has starred in six; Vampires vs. the Bronx, Vivo, The Adam Project, Emilia Pérez, and television shows Maya and the Three, and From Scratch. Both actors have some of the most esteemed filmographies in the industry. Saldaña’s films alone have grossed over $15 billion at the box office, while McConaughey’s forays have grossed over $3 billion. Upcoming romantic caper Positano will be their first-ever collaboration.  For the last few years, McConaughey has spent most of his time pursuing voice roles, notably appearing in Agent Elvis, Sing 2, and Deadpool & Wolverine. He began to foray back in front of the camera in 2025, starring in crime drama The Rivals of Amziah King and Apple TV’s survival thriller The Lost Bus. When is the Positano Netflix release date? No release date has been confirmed yet for Positano. Thanks to the filming schedule, it’s unrealistic to expect a 2026 release.
