Netflix’s ‘Hello Bachhon’: Cast, Plot, & Everything You Need to Know
Picture Credit: Netflix University admissions exams in India are a huge deal. With millions of students vying for a handful of spots at the country’s elite technical colleges, competition is fierce. As depicted in the Netflix Original Hindi series Kota Factory, students often spend many hours outside of school — and lots of money — studying at specialized coaching academies in order to score high marks on the tests. In 2016, educator Alakh Pandey founded a YouTube channel called Physics Wallah to teach the physics curriculum for the Joint Entrance Exam. His accessible video lessons were such a hit with students who had neither the time or money to attend intensive coaching academies that the YouTube channel expanded to include a wider curriculum — and eventually an app. Hello Bachhon (“Hello Children“) is based on Pandey’s early struggles to give all his students a chance at reaching their potential. The series also looks at the lives of some of those students to explore the challenges that could derail their futures. Netflix India’s Head of Series Tanya Bami told Bollywood Hungama: “We’ve been really invested in bringing fresh, new, relevant, dynamic stories to the youth audience. With Hello Bachhon, I think it was an evolution from the Kota Factory space, but in a very different way.” Hello Bachhon is produced by the same company that created Kota Factory, TVF. The series is created by Kota Factory-writer Abhishek Yadav, who co-wrote the new series with Ankit Yadav, Vernaali, and Sandeep Singh. Hello Bachhon is directed by Pratish Mehta (Kota Factory). What is the plot of Hello Bachhon? Here’s how Netflix describes the new series: A heartwarming story of an unassuming physics teacher who inspired millions of students across India, fighting against their circumstances to achieve their dream of becoming a doctor or an engineer. Based on the true story of Physics Wallah, Hello Bachhon is the uplifting story of how a single teacher standing up against the system can build a nation with his students. Who is cast in Hello Bachhon? Vineet Kumar Singh (Betaal, Bard of Blood) plays Physics Wallah founder Alakh Pandey. Singh says: As an actor, portraying someone who has impacted millions comes with great responsibility, but also deep gratitude. I approached the role with utmost respect and gave it everything I had. I hope audiences feel the warmth, struggle and hope that define this journey, and see a reflection of countless journeys from across our country. Other cast members include: Vikram Kochhar (Choona) Girija Oak Godbole (Inspector Zende) Satendra Soni (Laapataa Ladies) Samta Sudiksha (All India Rank) Varun Buddhadev (Toolsidas Junior) Naman Jain (Bombay Talkies) Anshul Dogra (Bandwaale) Sonu Kumar Yadav Hello Bachhon has five episodes and a TV-14 rating in the United States. The series is subtitled in 33 languages and features dubbed dialogue versions in English, Hindi (audio description), Polish, Spanish (Latin America), Tamil, and Telugu.
