The official longline reads: “Birmingham, 1940. Amidst the chaos of WWII, Tommy Shelby is driven back from a self-imposed exile to face his most destructive reckoning yet. With the future of the family and the country at stake, Tommy must face his own demons and choose whether to confront his legacy or burn it to the ground.” Sophie Rundle (Ada Thorne) and Stephen Graham (Hayden Stagg) will return for The Immortal Man, while Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Barry Keoghan, and Jay Lycurgo join the cast. It also sees the return of franchise favourites, including Henry Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter, Himesh Patel and Sharon Duncan-Brewster. Heartstopper: Forever Coming to Netflix: 2026 Picture Credit: Netflix First airing in 2022, Heartstopper is based on the best-selling graphic novels by British author Alice Oseman. The series follows unlikely teenage duo Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke) as they navigate their formative years in school and the trials and tribulations that come with it — including young love, as Nick and Charlie discover whether their friendship is anything more. Rather than renew the series for a fourth season, Netflix will instead end the series with a feature-length movie in 2026. The emotional final instalment adapts Volume 6 of Oseman’s best-selling series. It wrapped filming in July 2025 after just 35 days of filming. The Adventures of Cliff Booth Release date: 2026 Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood – Picture: Sony Pictures Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019) was always going to be a hit from the outset. With a director as esteemed as Tarantino, and a star-studded cast of Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Leonardo DiCaprio, Dakota Fanning, Austin Butler, and so on — it doesn’t get much better. Netflix’s sequel chronicles the adventures of Brad Pitt’s character Cliff Booth, who was a stuntman for Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) trying to maintain his relevance. The upcoming film is directed by David Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club, Gone Girl). Leonardo DiCaprio’s character is not expected to return, but Timothy Olyphant is confirmed to return to his role of James Stacy. Other cast members include Scott Caan, Holt McCallany, and JB Tadena. Netflix has not confirmed the release of The Adventures of Cliff Booth, but it is expected to debut in 2026. What’s more, the streamer debuted a surprise teaser trailer during the Super Bowl. Take a look: Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again? Release date: 2026 Picture Credit: Lionsgate Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married? debuted back in 2007. It returned to screens in 2010 with Why Did I Get Married Too? The rom-com movie franchise has garnered a cult following over the years. In recent years, Perry has had a fruitful collaboration with Netflix, developing a number of projects, most notably The Six Triple Eight and drama Beauty in Black. And later this year, the long-awaited threequel, Why Did I Get Married Again? arrives on Netflix. In the movie, the couples reunite in celebration as Marcus (Michael Jai White) and Angela’s (Tasha Smith) daughter prepares to tie the knot herself. The film marks the return of fan-favorite cast members, including Tyler Perry, Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Lamman Rucker, and Sharon Leal. Production on the film started in January 2026. It is confirmed to air later this year. Netflix sequels officially in the works Extraction 3 Status: Filming in 2026, expected to premiere in 2027 Picture Credit: Netflix After two highly successful movies, Extraction will return in 2027 with another high-octane thriller. Both director Sam Hargrave and star Chris Hemsworth are returning, and filming is expected to take place in 2026. The delay likely stems from Chris Hemsworth’s tight schedule, particularly his involvement in Avengers: Doomsday. Plot details for the movie are currently under wraps. Before Extraction 3, the franchise will return in TV form. The 8-episode series, titled Mercenary: An Extraction Series, is expected to debut in 2027. That’s not to mention an international spin-off going by the title TYGO. The Gray Man 2 Status: In development Directed by the Russo Brothers (Avengers: Infinity War & Endgame), The Gray Man yielded massive viewership, but the reviews were mixed. A sequel was confirmed to be in development shortly after the first film debuted. Ryan Gosling will return as Court Gentry, as well as Ana De Armas as Dani Miranda. The film is still in early development, and no filming has taken place. The issue with this sequel once again comes down to scheduling conflicts. Speaking to The Playlist in 2025, Anthony Russo confirmed that Netflix remains intent on a sequel, but bringing everyone together is proving difficult. “There’s still interest, yeah,” he said. “There’s interest, [it’s] just the availability issues between Joe and I and Mr. Gosling and et cetera.” Under Paris Status: In development While unannounced by Netflix, a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter suggests that the 2024 feature film Under Paris is returning for a sequel, with Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, Crawl) set to helm. Released in 2024, Under Paris was a breakout French horror movie. The movie sets the scene when the city of Paris braces for an attack by a giant, mutant shark in the Seine. We follow a grieving scientist and marine researcher who must face her past and save the city. This sequel is still in early development but is expected to enter production by July 2026. We’ll keep you posted on updates. KPop Demon Hunters 2 Status: In development KPop Demon Hunters is officially Netflix’s most successful movie of all time. The animated musical follows three pop singers — Rumi, Mira and Zoey — who when they’re not performing in front of their fans, are protecting them by fending off demons. Naturally, Netflix and Sony will return with another Kpop Demon Hunters instalment, but given the style of animation, don’t expect to see it streaming anytime soon. According to reports, the movie is aiming for a 2029 release date, although our understanding is that this may be too optimistic. The Sea Beast 2 Status: In development Netflix’s record-breaking animated movie The Sea Beast premiered in 2022. The movie followed monster hunter Jacob Holland (Karl Urban) and his adopted daughter, Maisie Brumble (Zaris-Angel Hator). The first movie garnered over 165 million hours viewed in its first 5 months. At the time it was the most celebrated animated movie at Netflix, and remains solidly amongst Netflix’s most esteemed animated movies. Of course, Kpop Demon Hunters would later come along and smash every record. A sequel to The Sea Beast is officially in development with director Chris Williams attached to return although when and when it’ll get into full production remains unclear. Red Notice 2 Status: In development When it debuted in 2021, Red Notice was a smash hit in terms of viewership. However, for ratings, it left a lot to be desired, currently holding a pretty meagre 37% on Rotten Tomatoes. A lot of its success came from the stellar cast, including Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot. In 2022, Deadline announced that scripts were complete for not only one, but two sequels. The hope was for production to begin in early 2023, but that never happened. There’s a significant scheduling conflict among the core trio. That latest rumors was a production start in late 2026 but we cannot rule out that that Red Notice sequels may not happen period. That said, its future does feel in a constant state of limbo. The Mitchells vs The Machines 2 (The Mitchells vs. The Mitchells) Status: In Production Picture: Netflix One of the pandemic films Netflix acquired from Sony Pictures is getting a sequel with a fresh plot and a new director taking over. The plot is thought to incorporate AI into its storylines (hence the rumored title mentioned above).  Other Expected/Upcoming Sequels at Netflix The Harder They Fall 2 – Jeymes Samuel posted on social media that he was planning a sequel to this Western released on Netflix back in October 2021.  Leo 2 – The Adam Sandler animated feature film is confirmed to be in production, with a sequel expected in 2027 at the earliest.  Second Narnia Movie – Greta Gerwig is hard at work on Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, but as we confirmed early on, she was working on at least two movies, with the second rumored to begin production in late 2026. Call My Agent: The Movie – Serving as a movie sequel to the main series.  We Can Be Heroes 2 – Reported around the time of release, we’re still yet to hear anything substantial about a sequel to We Can Be Heroes – hopefully soon. Yes Day 2 – Likewise, we’ve got nothing new on a sequel to Yes Day starring Jennifer Garner, although she has a lot of other projects at the streamer.
