As of March 2025 the MTA Police Department had their responsibilities expanded to include MTA bridges and Tunnels crossings, by strengthing their Highway Unit. The Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority employs fewer than 100 Bridge and Tunnel officers (BTOs), who perform various tasks concerning vehicular traffic, assisting stranded motorists, performing selected security duties at the nine intra-city crossings, as well as other miscellaneous duties.
