As of March 2025 the MTA Police Department had their responsibilities expanded to include MTA bridges and Tunnels crossings, by strengthing their Highway Unit. They manage traffic congestion, toll enforcement, enforces commercial vehicle safety and handle bridge and tunnel-related accidents. The Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority employs fewer than 100 Bridge and Tunnel officers (BTOs), who perform various tasks concerning vehicular traffic, assisting stranded motorists, performing selected security duties at the nine intra-city crossings, as well as other miscellaneous duties.
