Little House on the Prairie, one of the most beloved pieces of American literature, is receiving a brand new adaptation at Netflix, helmed by The Boys executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine. Coming to Netflix on July 9, 2026, the series has also dropped its first look and announced a second-season renewal.
Little House on the Prairie is an upcoming Netflix Original period drama that will ” reimagine ” Laura Ingalls Wilder’s autobiographical children’s novel. The story will also differ from the one told in the beloved Michael Landon series, which aired between 1974 and 1983 on NBC.
The Boys EP Rebecca Sonnenshine is the series’s showrunner and an executive producer.
“I fell deeply in love with these books when I was five years old. They inspired me to become a writer and a filmmaker, and I am honored and thrilled to be adapting these stories for a new global audience with Netflix.”

What is the plot of Little House on the Prairie?
It follows the Ingalls family’s move from their Wisconsin farm to a log house in Montgomery County, Kansas, in 1869. Their new home was built on Native American territory, but Laura’s father had heard that the government planned to open the territory to white settlers and thus took the risk to settle his family.
The family faces risks and perils during their two-year stay in Kansas, including falling ill, starting a new farm, and land disputes with Native Americans and the U.S. Government.
