Netflix India doesn’t have a lot of Original LGBTQ stories in its collection. There’s the 2022 movie Cobalt Blue and the short film “Geeli Pucchi” within the 2021 anthology Ajeeb Daastaans. There have also been LGBTQ subplots within ensemble series like Class, The Royals, and Dabba Cartel.
Because of that thin history, the new Original movie Accused feels like a big leap forward. The film focuses on a gynecologist caught up in a sexual misconduct scandal that threatens to destroy her professional reputation and her relationship with her wife. It’s fitting that the doctor at the center of the scandal is played by Konkona Sen Sharma, one of the stars of the above-mentioned Ajeeb Daastaans segment “Geeli Pucchi.”
Accused is directed by Anubhuti Kashyap (Doctor G) from of a screenplay by Sima Agarwal & Yash Keswani, the duo behind the films Anek and Khaali Peeli. The movie is produced by Karan Johar‘s Dharmatic Entertainment, whose prolific partnership with Netflix is responsible for the Original films Ajeeb Daastaans, Guilty, Meenakshi Sundareshwar, Nadaaniyaan, and Aap Jaisa Koi and the Original series Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives and The Fame Game.

When a celebrated queer doctor in London is accused of sexual misconduct, her life unravels. Now under a storm of suspicion and scrutiny, her marriage fractures and the truth blurs. Her wife must decide whether to walk away — or fight for the woman the world is turning against.
