Every Canceled Netflix Original Series in 2023
All the shows Netflix has canceled in 2023 and the ones we think might be next.

We’re now at the end of 2023, and the list of canceled Netflix shows for the year is now complete. Below, we’ll look at all the high-profile cancelations (that have been announced anyway) as of December 2023.
Cancelations are a painful part of being a Netflix subscriber. There’s nothing worse than starting a show only to discover that it’ll never properly conclude. Netflix isn’t the only network by any means to cancel, but given the scale of the service globally and the amount of content it produces, it’s easy to see why Netflix is the boogeyman.
With that said, Netflix does renew plenty, with over 150 shows at any given time set to return for future seasons.
There will also be lots and lots of shows that fall outside of this list into two camps.
Naturally ending shows include The Crown, Firefly Lane, and Never Have I Ever.
Then we’ll have shows that get ghost canceled, whereby we never officially hear about them being axed. We’re keeping track of some of those ghost-canceled shows here.
Missed any of the major 2022 cancelations? Our list is still up for all those here.
List of Canceled Netflix Shows in 2023
In From the Cold
Picture: Netflix
First released in January 2022, we only got the implication of a cancelation by Adam Glass in mid-2023, with us confirming in December 2023 that the spy thriller series won’t be coming back for a second season.
K-Drama Cancelations (?)
As we covered in more in-depth here, these Korean drama series were all recently relabeled to become “Mini-series.” This shouldn’t be too surprising, but it’s good that we’ve got confirmation that any renewals for the following have been ruled out:
A Time Called You
Celebrity
The Days
First Love
Glitch
Mask Girl
The Sound of Magic
Invisible City
Canceled: December 2023
Picture: Netflix
Running for two seasons was the fantasy Brazillian series Invisible City (also known as Cidade Invisível); one of the main actors took to Instagram months after the release of season 2 in March 2023 to announce that he had said farewell to his character.
Shadow and Bone
Canceled: November 2023

Netflix’s big fantasy series Shadow and Bone was one of the major Netflix Originals to get canceled following the end of the SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Despite strong fandom surrounding the show, the series faced a significant drop in viewership from season 1 (partly because of the big wait between seasons) and when you do the same math again for a potential two-year wait for any third season. It just didn’t make any sense to continue it.
Agent Elvis
Canceled: November 2023
Picture: Netflix
Also among those November 2023 cancelations was Agent Elvis which, to be honest, could’ve easily been considered a limited series given how it wrapped up and was initially pitched.
Nevertheless, there is confirmation that the big-budget Sony-backed Matthew McConaughey lending his voice won’t be returning for any additional episodes.
Captain Fall
Canceled: November 2023
Picture: Netflix
Although initially picked up for 20 episodes, we learned pretty quickly after Netflix shipped season 1 that any second season would need the viewership to justify any renewal.
Sadly, that viewership wasn’t there, meaning that the ten episodes that did drop on Netflix will be the last.
Farzar
Canceled: November 2023
Picture: Netflix
Another adult-animated show that was supposed to come back for more episodes initially but won’t is Farzar, the series from the creators of Paradise PD. Despite the second season having been written, low viewership likely sealed the show’s fate.
Glamorous
Canceled: November 2023
Picture: Netflix
After a single season, the Miss Benny-led comedy that also featured the talents of Kim Cattrall has come to a quick end with Deadline confirming that Glamorous wouldn’t be returning for a second season.
As a recap, the show followed Marco, who landed a dream job with a makeup mogul and began a dazzling journey of self-discovery amid work chaos and romantic challenges.
Poor viewership from the off likely led to this one facing the chop.
Wellmania
Canceled: October 2023
Picture: Netflix
One of the major new Australian series to arrive in 2023 was Wellmania starring Celeste Barber. After its premiere in March 2023, the series didn’t feature in the global top 10s, and it only managed 21 days in the Australian top 10s, suggesting a cancelation may be on the cards.
In late October, Barber confirmed just that in an Instagram post.
Losers
Canceled: Before 2023 but only acknowledged this year.
Picture: Netflix
First debuting on Netflix in March 2019, it took four years before we finally spotted that the creator of the documentary series confirmed via X that the show would not be returning for any additional seasons.
The docu-series explored multiple sports and athletes that didn’t quite make it or failed spectacularly.
Hard Cell
Canceled: July 2023
Catherine Tate revealed on a BBC Breakfast show that her show, which debuted in early 2022, had been canceled and added that the commissioner behind the show at Netflix had left, and she wasn’t told directly of the cancelation. Ouch.
Hard Cell saw the British comedian play a number of roles at a prison.
Snowflake Mountain
Canceled: July 2023
Picture: Netflix
As announced by Deadline in July 2023, Snowflake Mountain won’t return for a second season. The reality series ultimately probably picked up more headlines than viewers following its release in late June 2023.
The series saw coddled young people scored to the wilderness and stripped of home comforts, with the people performing the best potentially winning a cash prize.
Welcome to Eden
Canceled: July 2023
Picture: Netflix
Welcome to Eden was Netflix’s big splashy sci-fi thriller series out of Spain that was canceled a few months after its second season arrived in April 2023.
Cancelation of this one is ultimately not surprising given the show pulled in significantly less viewing for its second outing than the first. It does, however, leave the show with some huge cliffhangers that we now know will not be resolved.
Sky High: The Series
Canceled: July 2023

In 2021, Netflix Spain released Sky High, an impressive action crime-focused thriller featuring the Money Heist star Miguel Herrán.
A follow-up sequel series dropped onto Netflix two years later in March 2023. Sadly, it doesn’t look like the show lived up to expectations, with it confirmed that it won’t be returning for a second season.
In Love All Over Again
Canceled: July 2023
One of the three Spanish-language shows announced to be canceled in July was In Love All Over Again (Todas las veces que nos enamoramientos) released in February 2023.
Once again, it’s thought that poor viewership was why the show won’t continue for a second season.
Lockwood & Co.
Canceled: May 2023
Picture: Netflix
Although suspected, we got confirmation that Lockwood & Co. would not return for an additional season in mid-May 2023.
Numbers were, once again, ultimately the downfall of this series with not enough people having started it and ultimately didn’t pick up the required hours to be justified for any future season.
Man vs. Bee
Canceled: May 2023
Picture: Netflix
Although it wasn’t expected to return for any future episodes, in May 2023, a UK publication confirmed that the Rowan Atkinson comedy series wouldn’t return for any new episodes.
Rebelde
Canceled: May 2023
Picture: Netflix
Rebelde was a Mexican continuation and reboot of the classic Spanish-language series that aired in the early 2000s. After just two seasons, an actor attached to the show revealed in an interview that the show wouldn’t return for a season 3.
Smiley
Canceled: May 2023
Picture: Netflix
Debuting in 2022, Smiley was an LGBTQ romcom series that launched with eight episodes. However, in early May 2023, it was revealed that the show wouldn’t return for future episodes.
Bling Empire & Bling Empire: New York
Canceled: April 2023
Picture: Netflix
A double whammy of cancelations came in April 2023 courtesy of Deadline, who reported that the reality series Bling Empire and its spin-off set in New York would not return for any future seasons.
Bling Empire ran for three seasons, while the New York series only ran for a single season.
Freeridge (Season 2)
Canceled: April 2023
Picture: Netflix
Serving as a spin-off to On My Block and having very little to do with the mothership series beyond its location, Freeridge barely registered on the Netflix top 10s and, as a result, was quietly canceled by Netflix in April 2023.
Sex/Life (Season 3)
Canceled: April 2023

After two seasons, Sex/Life was announced to be canceled after the second season. Tensions apparently arose during the filming of season 2, and given the poor performance of the second season, it became clear there was no road forward for the steamy drama.
Young Wallander
Canceled: March 2023
Picture: Netflix
Created by Benjamin Harris, this crime mystery drama adapted the famous character into two standalone series. In March 2023, we learned that the show would not return for any future installments.
Ridley Jones
Canceled: March 2023
Picture: Netflix
Following the controversy surrounding the release of season 5 of the show, the creator of Ridley Jones confirmed on Twitter that the show would not return for any future seasons.
Per Nee’s Tweet:
“Oh and yes, this is the end of the series. They cancelled us after what they just put out. They threw all the specials, the xmas special (now?), the feature length special, the CYNDI LAUPER episode and just quietly slipped it onto the service. So this is it.”
Hot Skull
Canceled: February 2023
Picture: Netflix
We had high hopes for Netflix’s Turkish sci-fi series that is comparable to the likes of Bird Box, but sadly, despite great performance in its home country, one of the actors in the show stated that it won’t be returning for future seasons.
Juvenile Justice
Canceled: January 2023
Picture: Netflix
A report in late January 2023 confirmed that a second season of the K-drama series Juvenile Justice was in development but was ultimately canceled in the pre-production process.
Uncoupled
Canceled: January 2023
Picture: Netflix
Uncoupled was Neil Patrick Harris’s big return to the comedy scene and had top talent behind the camera with the series created by Darren Star and Jeffrey Richman.
While data suggests the show had a high completion rate among watchers, other data suggests that not enough people began watching the show in the first place.
The show was subsequently saved away from Netflix at Showtime and departed Netflix in May 2023.
Dead End: Paranormal Park
Canceled: January 2023
Picture: Netflix
The second major animated show to get the axe in 2023 was Dead End: Paranormal Park, a series praised for its LGBTQ+ representation.
After being picked up by Netflix for two seasons (both of which were released in 2022), the show’s creator took to Twitter in mid-January 2023 to confirm Netflix wouldn’t be picking up new seasons.
The Chair
Canceled: January 2023
Picture: Netflix
Although suspected to have been canceled in 2022, it wasn’t until the TCA’s in early 2023 that we got actual confirmation from talent from the title that the show would not be returning.
The series was the first major title to come out of the David Benioff and D.B. Weiss overall deal and followed Sandra Oh as a woman who becomes the chair of a failing English department at a University.
Inside Job
Canceled: January 2023
Picture: Netflix
The animated series Inside Job had been initially given a season 2 renewal order back in June 2022. Still, in January 2023, the creator confirmed rumors that Netflix had reversed the decision to renew.
In a statement on Twitter, the show’s creator Shion Takeuchi said:
“I’m heartbroken to confirm that Netflix has decided to cancel season 2 of Inside Job. Over the years, these characters have become real people to me, and I am devastated not to be able to watch them grow up. Reagan and Brett deserved to get their ending and finally find happiness. And I would have loved to been able to share what was in store with you all.
To everyone who watched, thank you for coming along on the ride. Even though I’m sad, it helps to know that there’s people out there who cared just as much about these characters as me.”
1899
Canceled: January 2023
Picture: Netflix
The big-budget series from the creators of DARK had big expectations and big shoes to fill.
The mystery sci-fi show was one of Netflix’s most ambitious shows in years, using state-of-the-art technology and featuring an impressive ensemble cast.
Why was 1899 canceled?
Data provided to What’s on Netflix from European SVOD analytics company Digital i suggests that the completion rate was ultimately too low and likely wasn’t growing substantially. Their data suggests only around a third of people who started the show went on to finish the title.
