After attending [[recruit training]] at [[Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego]], he attended artillery school at [[Fort Sill]], [[Oklahoma]]. He was finally assigned to [[3rd Battalion, 11th Marines]], with which he deployed to Iraq in February 2004.
