Bhagadatta has been hypothesized to have a dynastic connection with [[Bhavavarman II]], the [[Chenla]] monarch whose origins remain uncertain. Yet, some scholars argue that Bhavavarman II was in fact a son of Prathivindravarman, the ruler of Si Thep attested in the Wang Pai Inscription (K.978).[{{cite web|url=https://archae.su.ac.th/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%A2%E0%B8%87%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%99%E0%B8%89%E0%B8%9A%E0%B8%B1%E0%B8%9A%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%A1%E0%B8%9A%E0%B8%B9%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%93%E0%B9%8C-%E0%B9%82%E0%B8%84%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%87%E0%B8%81%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%A7%E0%B8%B4%E0%B8%88%E0%B8%B1%E0%B8%A2%E0%B8%88%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%B6%E0%B8%81%E0%B8%9E%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%B0%E0%B9%80%E0%B8%88.pdf|title=จารึกพระเจ้ามเหนทรวรมัน|trans-title=The inscriptions of king Mahendravarman|date=2019|accessdate=16 January 2025|author=Kangwon Katchima|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20230522003534/https://archae.su.ac.th/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%A2%E0%B8%87%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%99%E0%B8%89%E0%B8%9A%E0%B8%B1%E0%B8%9A%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%A1%E0%B8%9A%E0%B8%B9%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%93%E0%B9%8C-%E0%B9%82%E0%B8%84%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%87%E0%B8%81%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%A7%E0%B8%B4%E0%B8%88%E0%B8%B1%E0%B8%A2%E0%B8%88%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%B6%E0%B8%81%E0%B8%9E%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%B0%E0%B9%80%E0%B8%88.pdf |archive-date=22 May 2023 |language=th}}]{{rp|20}} |
