The force of the impact saw the damaged car rebound onto the racing line, where it was [[Side collision|t-boned]] by Renato Russo, triggering a pile-up involving several other drivers. The race was stopped and the circuit's medical personnel quickly arrived at the scene, where Sperafico died from massive head injuries. Russo also suffered severe head injuries and was taken to hospital, where he was in a serious but stable condition. Several other drivers were treated for minor injuries.{{cite news| title =Rafael Sperafico dies in Brazilian race| publisher =motorsport.com| url =http://www.motorsport.com/news/article.asp?ID=276687&FS=| date =2007-12-09| accessdate =2007-12-10}}{{dead link|date=March 2018 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }} Russo was released from hospital on 17 December.{{cite news| title =Renato Russo is released from hospital| publisher =stockcar2007.com.br| url =http://www.stockcar2007.com.br/english/2007/12/17/renato-russo-is-released-from-hospital/| date =2007-12-17| accessdate =2008-02-18| url-status =dead| archiveurl =https://web.archive.org/web/20080720010006/http://www.stockcar2007.com.br/english/2007/12/17/renato-russo-is-released-from-hospital/| archivedate =2008-07-20}} |
