Alexandra Road runs from Newtown along the ridge of Mount Victoria to Roseneath. For most of its length it passes through forested Town Belt land, before dipping into residential Hataitai. The cutting divided the ridge to Mount Victoria from the ridge to Mount Albert. The road remained incomplete for some years - it was named Alexandra Road by 1912.
