Alongside its U.S. launch, Soundtrack announced a global framework agreement with McDonald's. The agreement positioned Soundtrack as a provider of streaming music services for McDonald's extensive network of over 36,000 locations worldwide. While a significant endorsement, the framework nature of the deal required Soundtrack to negotiate directly with individual McDonald's franchisees for installations. Prior to the agreement, Soundtrack had already established a presence with McDonald's in Sweden, equipping over 60% of them. The music content for the broader McDonald's global agreement was fulfilled by Soundtrack in conjunction with PlayNetwork (also an investor in Soundtrack at the time) and Omnifone.

During this period of expansion, Soundtrack emphasized its technology-centric approach, with approximately 70% of its 52 employees in engineering and product development roles. This focus was presented as a key differentiator from incumbent background music providers, many of which relied on older technologies.

Development of Independent Catalog and Direct Licensing (2017–2018)
After using Spotify's music catalog for the first 18 months of operations, Soundtrack began building its own library of music. This transition was crucial for gaining greater control over content and licensing, particularly for global operations.
In April 2018, Soundtrack announced that it secured direct licensing deals with hundreds of music labels, publishers, and performing rights organizations. These included major entities such as Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Kobalt Music Group, Warner Chappell Music, BMG, as well as collection societies like ASCAP, SOCAN, ICE, SABAM, and APRA AMCOS. These direct deals enabled Soundtrack to implement a per-stream compensation model, designed to provide more accurate and potentially higher payments to artists and composers for the use of their music in commercial settings.
Soundtrack's music catalog grew substantially as a result of these efforts. By April 2018, it contained 26 million tracks. This number increased to 40 million songs by the first quarter of 2019 and reached 50 million songs by May 2019, facilitated by around 6,500 individual licensing agreements. This independent catalog was a cornerstone of its offering as it expanded globally.
