KUGR (Washington State University)

'''KUGR''' radio is a student run radio station at [[Washington State University]]. The station is operated by the [[Edward R. Murrow College of Communication|Edward R. Murrow College of Communications]]. KUGR can broken down into a music division and a sports division, with the music side playing primarily rock and roll, and the sports side calling games for Washington State Athletics. History
KUGR Radio was established in 1954, and began broadcasting on FM radio in the 1970's, under the name KUGR 95.1 Rock. A major moment for KUGR came in 1976, when the band Heart performed in KUGR's studio in Pullman.{{Cite web |title=About KUGR |url=https://kugr.org/about/ |access-date=2026-04-21 |language=en-US}} In the early 2000's the station shifted to become a top-40 station, instead of just rock and roll, a decision that would be reversed in 2011, when the moved to their current model. KUGR in recent years has made the move to social media, with their sports division, streaming games live on [[YouTube|Youtube]] after first streaming for a few years on [[Facebook]].

While originally a rock station KUGR has in recent years expanded is music options. Student DJ's are now given 2-hour slots to play their own music set, or host talk shows.{{Cite web |title=Join KUGR |url=https://kugr.org/join/ |access-date=2026-04-21 |language=en-US}} One of KUGR's musical traditions is to play music on the loudspeakers of [[Glenn Terrell]] Mall from Noon to 1 PM on friday afternoons.
