:Looking back at this: Agreed that there is confusion here. Originally I assume TQ wrote the line in reference to Sorabji's private music lessons outside the conservatory system (an option you point out), but the lead says {{tq|As a composer, Sorabji was largely self-taught.}} later. So either the "studied privately" is incorrect, or mostly redundant to later in the lead.
