i cant find it in the history, but i remember reading that /ke ge/ are also palatalized, [kʲe gʲe], which makes sense to me since they derive partly from historical /kiə giə/ and de-palatalization of /kʲ/ to /k/ is historically rare. Does anyone remember seeing this? [[user:Soap|—]][[user talk:Soap|Soap]][[Special:Contributions/Soap|—]] 17:31, 22 April 2026 (UTC) |

:i had to go all the way back to 2017. here's an [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Japanese_phonology&diff=prev&oldid=775888302#Palatalization_and_affrication old revision], and [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Japanese_phonology&diff=prev&oldid=622479555 this] is the diff where it was added. it has no academic source, unfortunately, but it seems unlikely someone would just make it up.
