Having difficulty in locating a good EARLY original reference for this. Everything is modern and not referenced. He may have received it in the 1890's, for leading the Egyptian Army to success in the Sudan. The battle of Toski was 1891. He took control of the Army in 1892. Major operations in the Sudan were between 1896 to 1898. Likely date of acquisition would be 1899, when he got many rewards. South Africa 1900-1902, and India 1902-1909 intervened. He may have sold his interest in it in 1902. This article is saying he was gifted the island, when he served as Consul-General in Egypt (no dates given), but that was from 29 September 1911 to June 1914. --[[User:BeckenhamBear|BeckenhamBear]] ([[User talk:BeckenhamBear|talk]]) 20:47, 24 November 2017 (UTC) |

Hello! I am declaring a Conflict of Interest as I am associated with the website Imperial Egypt. |
|||
I noticed that this article (currently a Start-class stub) lacks an external links section. We recently published an in-depth, ~5,390-word guide about Kitchener's Island (El Nabatat Island). It covers the historical background of the botanical garden established by Lord Kitchener in the 1890s, details the specific species collection (agaves, palm varieties, tropical flowers), and discusses the island's ecological role. |
|||
Because Wikipedia's policies (WP:NOTTRAVEL) typically exclude practical visitor logistics and travel details—which our guide covers extensively alongside the history—I believe this resource qualifies under the WP:ELYES guidelines as a valuable supplementary link for readers looking to plan a visit or understand the site's current layout. |

Here is the link for review: https://imperialegypt.com/kitchener-island-aswans-quiet-botanical-treasure/ |

I am not adding this myself to respect COI guidelines. Would an independent editor be willing to review this resource and consider adding it to an "External links" section if they find it valuable? Thank you for your time! |
