Alongside the All-Ireland SFC, the Tailteann Cup moved to a [[double-elimination tournament|double-elimination format]] from 2026 onwards. The sixteen teams who did not qualify for the All-Ireland series will be placed in an open draw with the first team selected playing their Round 1 tie at home. Winners of this round will progress to Round 2A and losers to Round 2B. Three of the Round 2A winners will move directly to the quarter-finals, while a fourth team selected at random will host [[New York county football team|New York]] in a preliminary quarter-final. Losers from Round 2A will meet winners from Round 2B in Round 3 to determine the other quarter-finalists; the tournament will proceed as a straight knockout format afterwards. |
