Murdock escapes, and Cherry is taken to the hospital to recover and escape with his colleagues before the AVTF can pursue him. Murdock returns to Page and tells her about Cherry and Poindexter, and what happened with the AVTF. Although Page knows Cherry is alright, she doubts Poindexter's intentions and expresses her wish that the AVTF would kill him, but Murdock reminds her that this isn't the right approach. When Fisk issues a missing person warrant for Murdock for saving his life at the Black & White Ball fundraiser, Murdock knows this could make it difficult for him to be seen in public as himself and Daredevil and to infiltrate Red Hook. Murdock and Page are attacked by the AVTF at their hideout in Josie's Bar. After Murdock defeats the officers, he sees that Page is holding one of them hostage, named Alan Saunders, who offers to help Murdock and Page by giving them his Red Hook security card to leak a copy of a statute to Governor Marge McCaffrey, which would allow her to revoke Fisk's access to Red Hook. Watching Jack Duquesne's trial, Murdock learns of Fisk's manipulation of the court. With McDuffie's help and testimony, Murdock breaks into Red Hook, initially intending to destroy the weapons. However, he discovers the AVTF prisoners and collaborates with Duquesne to free them. They receive assistance from Page and Angela, who now possesses her uncle's Amulet of Power, and escape with the prisoners. Following his successful escape, Murdock hears an explosion and discovers that Fisk has ordered the death of the Northern Stars night crew. Murdock shelters the prisoners in his old apartment, and then goes undercover as an AVTF officer to find Poindexter, who left several dead AVTF officers at a soda fountain. Upon locating him, Murdock confronts Poindexter, demanding he pay for Nelson's death, but Poindexter escapes and Murdock pursues him to the public boxing match at Fogwell's Gym, where Fisk is located. Murdock arrives to save Poindexter, who's wounded while trying to kill Vanessa, and they both escape.

Murdock helps a wounded Poindexter escape from the AVTF. They hide in the church and wonder if Vanessa is truly dead, knowing that Fisk might have the city under his control to hunt them down. Murdock also reminisces about his time with Nelson, when they worked as interns at Landman & Zack, solving a criminal case involving one of Nelson's childhood neighbors, Lionel "Ray" McCoy. Murdock learned that Nelson had given Ray his savings so he could start over, knowing it was the right thing to do, and that's how they decided to create their own law firm, Nelson and Murdock. When the AVTF arrives after tracking them, Murdock abandons Poindexter, knowing he would rather die. However, remembering Nelson's selflessness, he decides to save him and takes him to his hideout with Page to help him recover. Murdock leaves Poindexter being treated for his wounds by Soledad Ayala, though he knows Page doesn't share his opinion. Murdock reunites with Jessica Jones, who tells him she has a daughter and that armed men sent by Mr. Charles came to her house to recruit them for a super-powered team, which she refused and they then attack the AVTF's weapons depot. Upon returning, Murdock stops Page, who wants to kill Poindexter, because of his continued reluctance to kill, a topic they discuss as they part ways. After Red Hook's protests and testimony against Fisk, Murdock offers to make peace with him if they both leave New York. When Fisk refuses, Murdock and Murdock fight, and Murdock wins, but again refrains from killing Fisk.
