Insania (Latin for "insanity") was formed in 1987 in Brno by Petr "Poly" Pálenský (guitar, vocals, lyrics), Martin "Vrba" Vrbík (bass), and Martin "Malcev" Maleček (drums). At the time, the members had only recently completed secondary school. In its earliest phase, the band played fast, aggressive metal with a solemn stage presentation and overt [[Satanism|satanic]] imagery. According to Poly, the band's initial aim was to play "as fast and as hard as possible". From the outset, the band performed in English, intending to break through abroad. |

In 1988, the group recorded the demo ''Possessed by INSANIA''.
