A wide exhaust tip with tapered sides resembling the tail of a fish, also seen on motorcycles and aircraft. In 1925 the [[Brooklands]] race track mandated the use of expansion boxes and fishtails as a measure against noise.{{cite book |last=Harding |first=Anthony |date=1977 |title=Car Facts & Feats |url=https://archive.org/details/carfactsfeats0000hard |location=New York |publisher=Sterling |page=183 |isbn={{Format ISBN|080690108-X}} |access-date=}}{{cite book |last=Smith |first=Philip Hubert |date=1970 |title=The Scientific Design of Exhaust and Intake Systems |url=https://archive.org/details/bwb_P8-AHS-117 |location=Cambridge, Massachusetts |publisher=Robert Bentley Inc. |pages=119–120 |isbn={{Format ISBN|}} |access-date={{date|April 18 2026}}}}
A car or motorcycle exhaust tip with the sides forming a tapering design- either horizontal or vertically aligned - often made to look like the tail of a fish . "[[Koenigsegg Regera]]" uses a modern example of this design. These were made popular in the 1920's by their implementation in the Brooklands silencer which were necessitated by the noise regulations at the Brooklands race track.
