In August 2025, the AGLOA Board voted to change the format of current events and theme to remove the wager round in the Elementary division. According to the new rules, there will be two consecutive lightning rounds played with the same rules. |

Examples of past themes include the 1970s, the history of [[NASA]], the [[Mesoamerica]]n civilizations ([[Aztec]]s, [[Inca Empire|Incas]], [[Maya civilization|Mayas]]), [[World War I]], and the [[American Civil War]]. |
